Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we got up early and after showering etc made our way up to La Terazza for breakfast. We could see the Hilton Hotel from the restaurant. We managed to see many of the staff, as well as Cheryl and Graham Kelly and Jane and Joe to say goodbye, as well as other guests of our acquaintance. We then returned to our suite for final packing and then took ourselves to a lounge in the public area to wait until our white tags were called at 9am. We made our way into the terminal, collected our luggage and made our way, ever so slowly, through the immigration queue. They had three officers to handle 360 passengers. Fun. So, the immigration people checked us out, but there were no customs to check our luggage - and our last port of call was in Colombia! We ventured outside and found our shore excursion bus. Ann from our trivia team was on it too! So they took us down Alligator Alley out to the Sawgrass Recreation Park where we were put on large airboats. We were taken onto the Everglades where the driver talked about the ecological system (including how important vultures are). We found quite a few alligators, and turtles. And birds (including vultures) and fish. The airboat was really noisy and we were given earplugs. It was great fun just skimming across the water and the grass. After the airboat ride we were taken into the animal park. Their animals are rescued from owners and included panthers and owls. They also have lots of crocodiles and alligators. They have an alpha gator named Cannibal, and they knew he liked the female Crystal because he didn't eat her! After all of this we turned back and dropped some guests at the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood airport, then Tom and I and 3 others back at the port. From there we got a taxi to the hotel, where we found Christmas trees and Christmas carols. We checked in and settled into our room, having a nap as well. We had dinner by the pool - fish tacos and a burger. Very nice but atrocious service.
