Alright, I just got to Venice. I need to find a place to stay. Got a list from the tourism bureau and they said good luck now make your calls. Phone card and now to figure out the phone system. Card wont work...oops you have to remove the corner ok here I go.
Ah a room in a hostel for 20euroes perfect. Room sleeps 12 men. ok. that will have to do. Two days and two nights I figure. I got some help from a, take a guess, yes a pretty girl from Slovenia. Studying design in Venice. Just graduated. She was very nice..taught me what I needed to know about getting around Venice even walked me to the water taxi I needed to get to my hostel.
Now Venice is such a wonderous floating city. I feel in love with it. I decided to try and get lost after seeing parts where the tourists are abound I walked to the inner city where the locals lived, dined and loved. It is a bit different than where the tourists go. White sheets, blue jeans, red towels are hung to dry outside the windows. Nothing is in English. Everyone speaks Italian here. You will hear no other language spoken. Faded bricks peak through the cracked facades of many of buildings.
The streets are small. This is truelly a maze and I was destined to get lost. I feel like a kid again. Each turn in a corner is fraught with excitement, will a canal appear below me, children playing soccer, lovers in a squall, or a church stepple peaking from the rooftops. Small shops are everywhere. From woodworkers to local artists. Each passionate about their craft. You wont find any Walmart or Costco here. no no no.
There are 100 churches here. I am amazed and spell bound. I walk aimlessly and directionless for hours. Stunned at the architecture and the way of life. Here the people in Venice are unlike thier busy, got to be somebody, Milanese counterparts. They revel in the simplicity of thier life. Food, wine and good times.
Look at my photos and enjoy. I am heading back to bed again. it is 4.16am and I woke at 1.30am thinking it was 6am. oops. Three hours before breakfast. I cant wait to try to get lost in Venice again.
