The Rosa and Andy Experience
Hola Chicos!!!
We survived Rio without getting mugged!!!! woooooooo
Rio. Really don't think there is any place like it. From the crazy little Bomdinho (yellow tram) to Samba dancing in the streets in Lapa to the teeny thongs on the beach (no matter what size you were), Rio is definately one of a kind!
In the 4/5 days we were there we managed to brave a Bomdinho ride to Santa Teresa, a traditional little area of Rio, up in the mountains, which was lovely. We went to the Maracana football stadium (the largest in the world!), which was really cool because despite it being under construction, we were still able to get in and see the pitch. We also got to go into the changing rooms, press room and training room where a Ronaldo wannabe was showing us his moves!
We went into Lapa one night with 2 girls from the hostel (Sharon from Uk and Lisa from Jamaica) and it was crazy!! People were just dancing, drinking and singing in the street. It was as if there was some sort of festival going on but no! It was a normal Friday night! We bumped into Emma and Alex (the couple we met in Iguassu) next to this crazy 80 year old who was playing the drums like you've never seen. He was amazing!
The beaches were wicked and we spent one of our days on Ipanema beach. I felt like i was wearing a full piece swimming costume and was very embarassed when these 12 year old girls walked past in tiny bikinis!! Well... If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!!
We went up to Corcovado or Cristo Redentor or Monte Cristo or whatever name they're using today and it was truly amazing. The view of Rio was awesome and we were so lucky to have made use of the morning because by early afternoon the skies had clouded over, which meant our paragliding session was cancelled!
It was also too couldy to go up Sugar Loaf :( but we still had a great time there and just relaxed on Copacobana beach and watched some beach football so all was good!
On the whole Brazil was quality and definately want to come back some time soon.
After a very uncomfortable 10 hour flight (my bum has still not recovered from Florianopolis (I blame you Betina!!) we arrived at Cancun and man is it hot!?! It is also very full of English and American tourists, which is weird because now it feels like we're on a 2 week summer holiday, especially as there is no other way to cope with the heat apart from jumping in the crystal clear water or taking a dip in the swimming pool at the beach bar! (am i making you jealous yet?? what's the weather like in England??). We managed to sneak into a s*** hot hotel on our 2nd day after watching England beat Poland (like proper Brit holiday makers) and it was so so cool!!
We were at Playa del Carmen yesterday soaking up some rays and at Isla de Cozumel today and about to be late for our snorkelling trip so have to go!!!
will write again soon xxxx
