Richard & Michelle Hamilton's Travels
Today was a bit more of a laid back day. We got up late, were slow to get going, deciding today was an opportunity to explore Verona some more. We eventually hopped on a sightseeing bus, where we had an all day pass to hop on and off the two different lines - saving the feet for the hills and Lake Como. We saw and learnt a lot more about the history of Verona and its many changes of rule. The many & varied stunning buildings here are art forms that represent two thousand years of history, so it's hard not to like Verona. The bus took us to the highest point on the hills overlooking the city, but unfortunately only stopped for five minutes in a wired fenced compound as the building was being restored, which detracted from taking photos, so R resorted to lifting the camera up and shooting in hope. Another highlight was seeing 'Juliette's house' and the famed balcony. There are a lot of Shakespeare references here but many other poets and writers have been inspired by this building & the tragedy of true devotion. The only other mission of the day was to buy R a new pair of sunglasses. Regular readers will know that his near new pair were sat on in Bologna; and attempts to repair in Verona with superglue went horribly wrong, with fingers and sunglasses covered in superglue! A good but not ideal pair of Raybans at half price have been secured. The rest of the day was spent exploring and returning to the supermarket to purchase the ingredients for our bang-up dinner. Always an adventure in another country... Now to pack all new purchases into existing luggage - we have resisted buying a new bag until now, but Milan will be used for this. Next job to also update you with more photos. The apartment has been so well located. We literally step out the door where it is quiet, and around the corner into 'high street', Arena, restaurants etc. we would recommend this place to everyone.
