Richard & Michelle Hamilton's Travels
A half day on the road in Croatia. Today was an exciting day. I received the keys to a near new Renault Megane sports car, for the princely sum of $55. It was my first time driving on the wrong side of the road after countless visits to countries that choose this very in queen like side to drive on. It was a day to test any marriage even after 25 years, so I was intrigued if Michelle was going to scream in either fear or frustration at any point in the day. To our collective credit apart from a moment of driving into a carpark on the wrong side, all was good, driver calm and passenger fairly quiet; with only a shared frustration with a useless sat Nav. This morning we drove to Klis, a fort high on a rocky hilltop guarding a pass to inland Croatia. This was a Game of Thrones location where the dragon queen was stoned by her people. In real life it has been considered the most important Croatian defensive system for many centuries, with significant battles for control of this location by many countries. It was an imposing site overlooking Split and surrounding towns and bays. What was strange was, we were the only people there looking around! Next stop was 28km away in Trogir, an island town with significant history, amazing yacht mariner, and the source of some additional shopping for Michelle. We then returned to Split, dropped off the car in one piece and spent the last hour of our time in Split walking the little cobbled streets again, and taking advantage of cheap market goods, and people watching over a coffee. We now sit on a fast public ferry (catamaran) to Korcula (pronounced Korchula we found out today) a ferry which has just called into Hvar, so we see the town this time from the sea side. I now appreciate we only saw a small part of Hvar yesterday as the town wraps around a few hidden bays, with a long walkway around the coast connecting it. Our arrival was ideal for the sun going down, but the ferry windows are not the cleanest. I was allowed to escape briefly to take a few shots (which reminded me of my father always jumping off trains and getting his shots and just getting back in time).

Trevor Well done. Looks great and really good commentary - but make sure you are enjoying the holiday and not feeling obligated to spend the time stuck into a computer keeping the rest of us amused and jealous. Having said that keep the pics coming. Trevor
rahamilton2000 Thanks Trevor. Thoughts are noted and sorry about the jealous bit. The great news is we are enjoying the routine of taking thirty minutes on a boat or train, or restaurant to write this up and transfer the photos over. The best purchase I have made is an Apple iPad photo card reader. I'm backing all my photos up on the iPad.
Wendy A good start to a damp Monday morning back here, reading about your adventures in Croatia! How things have changed in letting family know how your trip is going, almost instant. M
Terry Likewise with Wendy about the immediacy of the information and the excellent format and tenor of the blog. Coupled with that is the opportunity to critique your pics. Hope you've got a horizontal format pic of Michelle sitting in the colourful outside restaurant - great converging lines leading to the distant lane!!
