The big day!!! Happy 50th birthday to me. Started the day off with a cup of tea in bed then after breakfast we once again tried to tackle the shopping area of bangkok. Deciding to tackle another Tuk tuk driver who insisted on taking us to another "government controlled" jewellery store, not really wanting too but we agreed and was assured we only had to look so he could get a fuel coupon. It must have meant to be - I come away with a beautiful new piece of jewellery as my birthday gift. It was the first piece I saw and it fitted perfectly :).
Finally got into the Sian centre, Rob found some shorts, wandered around a little longer until we caught a taxi back to the hotel. Had a swim to cool off, and a rest before the nights entertainment. Starting the evening with a birthday cocktail on the 23rd floor, then we were transported to the boat for dinner. When we arrived at the docks there were hundreds of people about, however it seem to be organised chaos.
The crowd preceded to board and four boats later we were seated at our table. It was perfect - top deck, front table, excellent view. The meal was buffet with drinks served to the table. Very relaxing - cruising, eating, drinking with music & a great scenery. Almost romantic!! We chatted to a chap sitting on the table next to us who happened to be the brother of a girl I went to boarding school with. As the saying goes "such a small world".
A great day and a birthday I will remember.
