We got up this morning and tried to make the most of our last buffet breakfast! It was so filling though we could never eat as much as we wanted! We got sorted and ready after and went to check out of the lovely place we had been staying! Back to reality for us now!!
The staff were lovely as always and wanted to drop us wherever we wanted to go but we insisted that we were fine. We both got a bag each too as a souvenir which had Golden Temple Residence wrote on it. The manager was there to say bye and the staff got a photo with us before we left. It was sad to check out, but time to move on!
We walked around the corner to our new s***ty smelling accommodation, what a downfall after staying there! The s*** literally made my stomach turn as we walked past! It was right next to a sewage system! Nice one! We were able to check in early and the guy showed us to our room. It was a big room with two double beds in. It looked pretty worn down and the bathroom wasn't very nice at all. The toilet looked dirty and you had to hold the shower to wash in the middle of the small bathroom. The blanket we were given for the bed didn't look too appealing either so we decided we would sleep in our sheets here.
We swiftly headed out of the accommodation and went for a wander. We booked our onward travel to Phnom Penh- a bus costing $5, which looked okay. We also booked a trip for the next day to see Angkor Wat at sunrise and go see the other temples. We were getting picked up at 4.40am, so early night for us!! We then had a wander around the town and to every different market possible for the rest of the day. We had lunch in a shabby restaurant with food for about a dollar or two. The food seemed okay, although it did have some weird looking slimy meat in the rice. There were also cats and cockroaches about. After the food, we both realised we had been bit by bugs whilst we were in there. My legs were covered and itching like mad! Won't be eating there again!!
The rest of the day we did some shopping, which was very cheap! We both got a pair of trainers and some clothes! The trainers were £14 each and clothes cost about £2-£4. Bargain! We walked through the fresh good market too, and there were all different meats skinned! They were snapping the heads of chickens and there were guts everywhere. There was even pigs heads!! We got out of there pretty quickly!
We chilled out by the river for a while and watched the people go by. Because many people didn't have jobs or they relied on tourists etc for work, such as tuk tuk's or food venders, people would often just sat around for most of the day, sleeping usually in their hammocks or in chairs.
We stayed out for dinner and went to a street vender with chairs outside. The first we found in Cambodia!! We missed Thailand for the street venders and the 7/11's! It was different trying to eat here!! The food was nice there though and we got nice big portions of yellow noodles with meat. Yum!
After dinner we headed back to our room to try and get an early night ready for a very early morning the next day!
