The time had come for my month of solo travelling to come to and end and to meet Elly, Shereen and our new mate Samm in ATHENS!!! I had heard nothing but bad things about Athens and that really the highlights were the islands. So I was fully prepared for a terrible experience- which luckily I didn't have! We only spent two nights in Athens and I actually didn't mind the city at all! We had a nice dinner where they gave us FREE DESSERT (a great way to win my heart) and our hostel was really good. Next day we missed the free walking tour and decided to make our way up the giant hill to the Acropolis. It actually turned out to be a lot easier than we thought and in no time we had trekked to the top to explore. For coming in off season it was actually really busy with bulk oldies!!! We tried finding an English tour to cash in on and failed but still took our happy snaps and enjoyed the amazing view of Greece.
Next day we had to get up really early to catch the train to our morning ferry to Mykonos so we set the alarm and headed off to get on the train. All four of us were standing in the area by the doors with our backpacks and luggage with another older man, all heading to catch a ferry. At one of the stops a group of men got on and then all of a sudden they started grabbing the stuff of the older man standing just next to us! We had no clue what to do while these men grouped around him and us just grabbing his bags! We were trying to tell them to stop and next minute when we came to the next stop they just stopped and rushed off!! Such a wild situation to be in and then a man who had been NO help at all asked if we had all of our stuff because they were thieves- duh! We came to the conclusion that they must have been trying to cause a diversion because Sammy saw one of them putting his jacket over my bag and try to reach for something- they were just all together super suss! Luckily none of us at any stage let go of our valuables and everything was in tact.
Regardless of that I still didn't actually mind Athens! Haha it was an interesting introduction to the country we will be spending the next ten days :)
