I arrived in KL early yesterday morning after a brief 45 minute flight from Singapore. Pain in the arse though as I thought I had to check in 3 hours before my flight as it was an international one so I got up at 3am, got to the airport shortly before 4am and found the whole place closed apart from Starbucks and Burger King! It got the biggest latte ever and then wondered around until the check in desks finally opened about 5. Bit annoyed as I could have stayed in bed for another hour! I arrived in to KL at 8am and had to find something to eat. Really didn't fancy noodles for breakfast and ended up getting Burger King. It was really good!
Got in to the city on the KLIA Expres and then managed to lug my bag on to the monorail. Arrived in Chow Kit which seems to be the arse end of KL! All the men stare at me openly. Makes me feel really self conscious but I know that it's only because in this area there are really not many white people and all the women are convered up head to toe. I got in to my hostel about 10.30am and got talking to the people in my room. There's a lady from California who got early retirement and decided to spend a few months bumming around Asia and two girls from Middlesex who are really nice and I went with them to KLCC and the mall at the base of the Petronas towers to get some lunch. I got bbq chicken and rice with a drink and it cost me RM8.30. There are RM6 to the pound! Spent the afternoon wandering around the mall enjoying the air-con. Walked outside the mall and immediately got beeped out by taxis as they wanted my custom. Its a mad place. The traffic is insane and there's loads of air pollution. In Chow Kit where I'm staying the streets are really dirty and everything smells funny! Food, car exhust and sewers all combined! Bought some more 2 min noodles for my dinners at a pound for a 5 pack and got the train/monorail back to the hostel. The hostel itself is nice and my room is really nice. Its a girls dorm and the walls are pink and there are teddies everywhere. I've got pink sheets and a Disney Princess blanket!
Slept in today until nearly 2am and then had a rubbbish shower I may as well have stood under a dripping tap! Once the boys got out of the other 2 showers I finally got some water and managed to have a wash! Went to explore the Merdeka Square wihere the independence from Britain was proclaimed in 1957 and then I went to Central market and had a wander round looking at the craft stalls. Everything there is so overpriced as it's aimed at tourists. Got back to the hostel soon after 6pm and have just been reading my guidebook and looking online at places to stay when I move on. Thinking of going to Melaka next. Need to book something asap as I'm supposed to check out of here on Wednesday.
Am watching a movie called "Saved" at the mo. It's old but quite funny!
Thinking of doing the hop-on hop-off bus tomorrow as everything here is so hard to find.
