Hello everyone, Just arrived at Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, we have about 2 hours in town before we catch a ferry to Long Island and stay there for 3 nights. Should be fun! Lots has happened this week, whale watching in Byron Bay was amazing, we saw about 6 whales including a little-un with mum, and the speed boat was such good fun! Got very wet though. We left Byron Bay and headed for the Gold Coast for a couple of nights, which was good- not as pretty as Byron Bay though, and very americanised. The accommodation was amazing though! Felt very posh. Food was good too :) After the Gold Coast we made our way to the ferry for Fraser Island. On the way we stopped at Brisbane for a bit of shopping. The next day, a few of us did a 4 wheel drive bus tour of some features of the island, ending up at Lake Mackenzie which was beautiful. Saw a big lizard on a tree! Saw an amazing sunset on the beach on our last evening there. Got the ferry back yesterday and travelled on to Rockhampton last night, where a few of us went into the Capricorn Caves and did some exploring. Did a bit of amateur pot-holing!! and saw some kangaroos near our lodges, a mum dad and joey. they were extremely tame! Have also heard and seen lots of kookaburras. This morning we got up really early again :( and bused all day pretty much, about 8 hours in total to get here. On the way we did some shopping for our fancy dress costumes for the party on monday! Hope everyone is ok back home, I for one am really missing everything English although am having a good time here too :) Rach x
