We were up nice and early this morning as we were flying to Melbourne! We could have taken an 11 hour bus or for the same price an hour and a half flight..... It wasn't a very hard decision to make.
The airport is about 20km out of the city and when we arrived in Sydney, the only mode of transport we could find advertised to get you there is a $16 dollar train, which meant it would cost almost as much to get to the airport as is it did for the flight itself! Adamant there must be a cheaper alternative, we asked at Tourist Information if there was a local bus we could catch. The woman behind the counter advised we catch the train as the bus was "very slow and hard work to". Not convinced, Rachael explained as we have done a million times throughout the trip when people have tried to push us to take the more expensive option, that we have more time than money so she begrudgingly told us a bus number and sent us in the direction of the bus terminal to find out more information there. Happy that we could cut the price of the journey by half we spoke to the lovely bus ticket guys who told us everything we needed to know and we got to the airport with time to spare.
We arrived in Melbourne slightly later than we were suppost to after our first delayed flight of the trip. We collected our bags and got onto a courtesy bus which took us direct to the hostel.
The hostel seemed much nice, really large but decent kitchen room spacious with white sheets and not full of English yobs for a change. Instead for some reason the French had descended on it, in our room there was a great set of three lads who'd arrived in Oz ten days ago and a guy who'd been here 12 months.
In the afternoon we went to look for a car rental ready for our trip to the "Great Ocean Road" over the weekend, we secured a Hyundai Getz with a ridiculous bond of £2000 but really looking forward to it.
In the evening Tom tried out his French and went for a few beers in the hostel bar with the guys from our room, you would not believe how long it took to explain what the term "pool shark" meant, shouldn't have bothered!
