The big plan for today was quite honestly to do nothing, unfortunately that wasn't how it was going to turn out.
We started with a little breakfast in the resorts bar/restaurant then thought we'd look into getting off the island tomorrow and head into Malaysia. The trip to Malaysia is not a particularly easy one as not many seem to do it and is currently a terrorist threat in the south of Thailand. The most direct route is using the train but first we had to book a boat off the island, get a bus to the train station then hang around for 8 hours (so long as the train was on time) then travel 11 hours south over the border. It sounded hard work but better than the alternative of a coach. So we started by assessing our options and decided booking in advance was the only safe bet so we were willing to play the premium to book from the island. As it turns our all seats and beds we full on the train and could not be booked for the next 5 days. We spent a while looking into other train options but were forced to consider getting a coach while also avoiding the more dangerous areas.
The plan now is to get a coach to Had Yai tomorrow the largest city in the deep southern area which doesn't seem to have seen much trouble since 2006, stay one night then move over the boarder to Penang the next morning, fingers crossed!
This all got pretty stressful to be honest and ended up taking most of the day. Evening soon arrived and we spent the evening saving our last few Baht drinking Changs on the wooden bungalows balcony.
