SYDNEY!!! We've long been waiting on our trip to Sydney, expecting it to be one of the highlights.
Arriving sleep deprived doesn't always help but we landed at our hostel to find there was no room for us, even though we'd paid for the beds two days ago. We were forced to wait an hour or so until people started to leave (as it was 6 am when we arrived) and managed to get upgraded from a dorm to a twin room and we're only playing £19 for the night between us! Good start!
Flicking through the brochures over breakfast while we waited for our room we spotted a free tour of the city. Three times a week a group of Sydney students give walking tours for three hours absolutely free, we were straight on that even though exhausted.
The tour was really good (thankfully the sun stayed behind the clouds for the majority), far more relaxed that the normal guide you get marching from place to place loving being the centre of attention. The girl took us round each site giving a brief history and we pretty much covered central Sydney in those few hours but also highlighted the free Museums etc.
The Opera house was really cool to see, most peoples first image for Sydney, didn't really know there was so much of a story behind its build. Got the compulsory photos, might be a good shot to try and impress Alex with, to get it lit up at night in a few days.
We tipped a little at the end, as did the other ten or so, if only Lancaster had tourists!
Later in the afternoon we went for a kip to recover on the sleep lost last night. Tomorrow we head out of the city to the "Blue Mountains", its meant to be good for walking, we'll then return to Sydney for three more nights before the flight to Melbourne.
