We took a two hour double decker train (Tom was buzzing) from Sydney central station to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains (yes Alex, as you sarcastically highlighted they are Blue).
We arrived at the "lodge" we'd booked into, stored the bags and quickly got onto a trail. The trails were mainly man-made footpaths but nice and easy to walk along. If there's one thing this country has, its great views, nothing like we've seen before. As we looked down the massive valleys in the sunshine we could see for miles and miles with a hint of the haze which is what causes the mountains to appear blue.
We spent a couple of hours walking around the marked trails, finishing up at Echo Point, which had amazing views across the valley. On the way back to the lodge, we went to the supermarket to buy some lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon in the living room of the lodge watching tv and making the most of the free tea and coffee.
