We were up at 5.30 this morning to get out bus to Don Det, one of the 4000 islands. Using a Tuk-Tuk, we arrived at the bus station 9k out of town and hung around for a while before boarding the truck full of locals, big bags of sugar, roofing tiles and of course a motorbike! The journey took 3 and a half bumpy hours and we arrived at the pier where we needed to get the boat to our island, Don Det. When we arrived on the island, the first thing that struck us was how laid back it was. Normally when searching for guesthouses, it is not possible to walk down the street without Laos trying to drag you into their accommodation, but here, you have to drag them out of their hammocks to help you out.
Later that afternoon, we met with Mel and Amy again for a few drinks and booked onto a fishing Mekong fishing trip for tomorrow. It turns out, this island only has power between 6.o0pm-10.00pm, so at 10.30 we returned to the guesthouse for a sweaty night without a fan.
