Hannah and Tom's Travels
We spent the day after the boat trip with our feet firmly on dry land in a town called Labuanbajo on the coast of Flores. The day consisted of going on the internet, booking diving and eating lots of squid. The next day we set sail again but this time to go diving. Komodo National Park is ment to have some of the best diving in the world and it did not dissapoint. Brisk currents, sharks, turtles, and incredible coral. The dive company we went with were called 'Reefseekers'one of the best we've been with yet but acutally they'd had a bit of trouble with the brisk currents a few months ago. G and T i think you wrote to us about the dive incidents in Indonesia? Well it was with 'Reefseekers'and one of the women who got whisked away by the currents for 2 days owned 'reefseekers'and was on our boat! So we listened intently to her tale of being swept away and then being too scared to go on land for fear of being biten by a dragon- luckily they were all rescued.
The day after diving we got up very early to flag down the local bus going inland. We drove straight for 6 hours along windy roads and past spectacular scenery. We stoppped for short break to nurse numb bumbs and grab a bite to eat and then drove for another 4. We think that was our last 10 hour bus.. hurrah! Arrived in to a town in the mountains called Bajawa. We were instantly suprised at how cold it was, pulling on our jumpers we inquired of the temperature and were shocked to hear it was 20 degrees! Don't know how we are going to cope back in England.
Next day we went in search of the tourist information. We found it (eventually) and got some good leaflets about the area. In exchange we helped correct the the tourist-info-man's grammer in some english leaflets he was preparing, pages of the stuff! Half an hour later he helpfully flagged down a moto for us to rent and off we whizzed in to the rolling hills. We found a beautiful traditional village called Bena perched on the hillside and chilled out there for a while absorbing the view. The kids around the area are so friendly crying 'Hello Mr!''Hello Mrs!'where ever we go, they stick out their hands for a high five as we ride past and squeel when we manage to give them one.
We are having issues with our photos at the moment. We think our memory cards have a virus so won't be putting on anymore photos until we're home and hopefully we can sort it all out. Sorry.
