Today is the last day of organised activities. Our guide picked us up at 8.00AM for the drive to My Son, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The drive there was a bit hair raising as the new driver was young and fancied himself as a Formula One driver. We arrived, slightly breathless and wandered around the ruins, some dating back to 200 B.C. but the majority around 1000 A.D. A lot of damage inflicted compliments of the U.S. (and allies) but a lot of painstaking restoration work undertaken, largely by the Italians! It was quite hot (around 30 degC) and humid. Also a cultural performance featuring some dancing and balancing of pots on heads. Back then to Hoi An and a walk around the old town visiting a typical family house and a chinese temple. Lunch then and we broke a new record with 8 courses. I should stress that all the lunches have been organised in advance and they are a fixed menu which we don't have any say in. The next table was being cleared away and we noticed lots of unfinished wine! (Possibly unstarted wine) We have stopped hankering for wine now and play it safe with local beer! We said goodbye to our guide who has been fantastic especially with his knowledge of history and culture. Bumped into Hans, a chap we met on the boat at Halong Bay. He was staying in the hotel down the road and comes from Zurich, Switzerland. Returned to the hotel for a swim in the pool which was nice and later a walk to a nice restaurant. Main courses here cost from about VD 60,000 to VD 120,000 on avarage. Currently VD (Vietnamese Dong) 100,000 is about A$6.00 Beer is about VD 30,000 per bottle.
