Wake up at 6:30am and get dressed quickly and head downstairs to check out.
Collect our tickets for today's journey and we're told the bus will pick us up at 7:30am. We quickly go down the road to Costa for breakfast and then back to the hostel.
As we are waiting for the bus Ashley comes out as she's just heading out for a run! Get on the bus at 7:30 but don't leave Siem Reap until 8:20.
The roads a good here so we get moving quite quickly and stop about an hour into the journey for a toilet break and then again at 10:40 just before the border (slept most of the journey). At 11:15 we are driven the last few kilometres to the Cambodia/Thailand border where we walk though and get our fingerprints taken. Queue for a While to get our passports stamped and then head through to wait for our transport. We are given stickers so that the organisers know who should get in which bus.
A few groups head off for their mini vans to Bangkok, which leaves me, Rikka and a boy (from Luxembourg) hoping to go to Koh Tao. He has been told that, despite having a ticket, as the person who was supposed to be picking him up hasn't arrived he will have to buy a new ticket and go to Bangkok today and buy a new ticket to Koh Tao tomorrow ; which he obviously does not want to do as he already paid $60!
I suggest to him to phone the number on the ticket to find out where the person is, so he does. After speaking on the phone to the travel agent and then being given another number he manages to locate the person picking him up and heads off. I'd like to think I was the hero of the moment...
Finally, after eating a vegetable which looked like a potato (didn't taste like one) our mini can arrives. There's only 2 other people in the van so I take the front 3 seats and Rikka sits behind me, so comfortable! I get out my pillow and blanket and stay asleep for most of the journey, waking up for the toilet break about 10 minutes before the Ferry port in Trat.
Get on our ferry and it starts to rain a lot. The ferry takes about 40 minutes so Rikka and I have a Chang Beer (on the way to Koh Chang). Get off our ferry (it's now dark) and we are pointed to a taxi (pick up van with seats in the back) and are told its 100baht to Lonely Beach (the backpackers area...).
After 10 minutes journey we stop and are told that as there are only 4 of us (Me, Rikka and 2 locals) we have to pay an extra 50baht or wait 2 hours for more people! It's already 7o'clock so we begrudgingly pay the extra. Takes another 30 minutes to get to the other side of the island to Lonely Beach.
Investigate the first guesthouse we see "Stone Free" and decide to stay there. He downstairs is pretty cool and they play live music, upstairs are lots of little wooden rooms - vey cute! 150baht each per night.
Drop our stuff off and then head out to find food. Loads of places look good to eat at but we go to "Magic Garden" (reminds us of Utopia in Luang Prabang). I eat yellow curry which is amazing, but really spicy! Get some wifi to let mum know I've arrived and then head back to the room for bed at 10:30pm. Takes a while to get to sleep as the rooms are not completely sealed (with gaps to outside) and hey play music on the part of the island until about 4am! Good job I'm tired though as I stay asleep most of the night :)
