First time that the light didn't wake me up today and my alarm goes off ...
Get ready and pack our stuff away then go downstairs for breakfast at 8:45am. The minivan, which was supposed to collect us at 9 arrived early so we payed up quickly and took our breakfast to go.
On the minivan is a Danish lady & her 13 year old son who are travelling with another Danish man who they met whilst travelling in Egypt a few years ago.
Pick up a Chinese girl who is travelling alone and is very hungover but won't stop talking! She starts telling the Danish lady about when she lost her virginity!!! Very funny :O
Arrive at the Ferry at 10 and get on board, finally leaving Koh Chang at 10:40 and sail back towards mainland Thailand. I really enjoyed Koh Chang, a very laid back place with friendly people (this is how I'd expected Don Det to be).
45 minutes later we disembark and are transferred to a VIP bus, which this time IS VIP with leather reclining seats with foot rests, A/C that works, and as there are only about 10 people on a bus that seats 60 there's LOADS of space to spread out our stuff :) the Chinese girl from the minivan who is quite clearly hungover keeps complaining that it's just travel sickness so I give her 2 travel sickness tablets to shut her up :)
We're on the way at 12 and they play a movie which I think is called "Enders game" or something with a character called Wiggins who plays "the game", ... Anyway, it seemed like a movie dad and Lauren would enjoy?
After that movie they played "Rush" in Thai so I fall asleep :p
At 3:15 we stop for lunch by the side of the road and I have vegetable fried rice which was quite good and surprisingly I am not yet fed up of rice...
The Chinese girls thanks me for making her feel better :) On the way again at 3:45 with a fairly uneventful journey, apart from the Chinese girl rapping to the girl at the back of the bus - poor girl!
Get into Bangkok at 6:45pm (actually a really good journey!) and as we get out of the bus it starts raining quite hard so we head to Burger King for shelter and also to try find wifi, to find our hostel, which surprisingly they do not have! After some chips Rikka runs out to find our hostel in the rain (we know it's on the next street but not sure where) while I stay with our bags in Burger King, so they don't get soaked. I update my journal quickly.
Rikka returns after finding our hostel just around the corner and the rain is beginning to stop. We drop our bags off at the hostel and then message mum and Aaron to let them know we've arrived, and also message André and Thiago to find out where we should meet them. They lived here for 3 months before we met them and so they know a few places and tell us to meet them on Sukumvit Soi 11 at the Australian bar. We jump in a taxi and I get the fare to half price as the guy was trying to overcharge us.
When we arrive Rikka and I order a beer each and wait for the boys to arrive. Just as they get here they bump into a friend of there's, an American girl from Washington DC who is here on a 6 month internship, she also joins us (I think her name was Tessa?)
Finish our drinks and then head down to Limoncello, which is apparently the best Italian in Bangkok, for Pizzas :)
Nice to catch up with the boys. André tells us of a story of then he was in Brazil, "sun painting" (bathing, his English still needs work...) and on the way home from sun painting he saw his friend on a horse so took the horse back to where he had been and got told of by security. I'm not sure why he told this story, but it seemed funny! They both also told us of when they had each, separately, been mugged at gunpoint in Brazil!
Leave the restaurant at 11:40pm and take a taxi with the boys and drop them off at their guesthouse and we stay on in the taxi to go back to our place, this time of night the taxi was cheaper :)
Get in at midnight after being dropped off around the corner (we are staying one road up from Kaosan Road and so they have blocked off some of these streets or cars at night time). Our room is FREEZING from the A/C, which makes a change from some of the rooms we've stayed in!
