Hi to all,
Not sure when I last wrote- maybe Nice?
We got caught in a French train strike leaving Nice so missed our connection to Genoa and then the coast and of course Italy wouldn't replace the tickets as they were from France so had to buy new ones! Anyway we finally got to our place at 9.40 pm then had a km climb 700 m up a hill. I must have earned some brownie points on the Spanish walk as a local man who had just put a friend on the train offered us a ride up plus found our landlady for us !!!
He owns a bar here so 10 mins later we went there for a very welcome drink!
We have an upstairs( great for my long suffering knee) apartment in the middle of the village- great views and can cook a bit for ourselves.
We are in the 3 rd of 5 villages along a rocky coast with walking tracks between them and up in the hills also.
We have walked from our village 3 to 1 then yesterday 5 to 3. Because of a landslide we had to detour way up in the hills along narrow ledges between terraces of mainly grapes. Courtney did very well considering she has terrible balance. I could hear thunder and was imagining us trying to get down if the track turned to mud ! Got down luckily before it rained much of the night.
Today we went past Village 1 to a bigger town with a beach- well black pebbles, and stayed there for a few hours until the weather looked dodgy.
Tomorrow we may go back and walk from there to village 1 where there is another little beach to stop at. The water is freezing!!
Then off to Rome Tuesday AM. My iPod battery has packed up after 3 months so need to try and get another.
My Dad has been in hospital the past week with fluid on the lungs, he was very sick but is improving now. Michael and Adrian are going over on Wednesday for a week and will see him thank goodness.
Courtney and I have been trying to eat the olives on our meals or provided as extras. They are disgusting- do any of you actually like them???
Ok several days later now and we arrived in Rome by train leaving in pouring rain so well timed departure!
We did a longer harder walk yesterday around a headland to village 1.
It was a hot day so after a drink we went to the black stony beach.
This PM I went to the Colleseum, Roman Forum then we had a long Sangria refresher and then off to see some important churches and Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.
I was exhausted when we got back!
Tomorrow is the Vatican and the Catacombs and hunting down the Apple Store as my iPod battery has died.
My Dad is coming home tmw which is a big relief for everyone.
Ok will finish and post this with a photo of where we have been

deb hopkins Glad to hear Ray is better. Great that Michael and Adrian went to see him. Did they go especially or for a father son bonding thing? I liked Italy, I would love to go back there. One day may-be Keep safe Love D
