- After leaving the whitsundays tour and hanging around the lagoon waiting for my bus it was finally time to leave airlie beach, the bus was suppose to pick me up at 5.30pm but was 30 minutes late on top of that a few hours into the journey the driver got out to help a guy who's tyres were apparently about to go on fire, had to try and sleep through the journey since I wouldn't arrive at rainbow until 7.40 am so it's like a 14 hour journey but we had to go to the hervey bay bus stop twice because they missed a woman so by time we got to rainbow we were 2 hours late, 16 hours on a bloody bus!
I heard rainbow was quite boring but I thought it would be good to have two days to recover from whitsundays but as soon as I arrive I knew I would get bored quick. There I literally a few shops in a street, two hostels and the beach. I saw a leaflet for a 3 hour surf lesson for 55 dollars which was reasonable and then it also said it's the best place for starters because it has the longest and safest waves the way the beach is so I booked a lesson for the next day.
I met a few girls who were on my whitsunday trip and a new friend of there's who was doing the Fraser island with them so I hung around with them. While they were having their Fraser island briefing I thought it would be the perfect chance to lie in a hammock for the first time over here. The hammock was so low to the ground my arse was basically grazing off the floor everytime I moved side to side, it was quite comfortable though and the sun was out so I didn't mind.
There was a sunset walk free called carlo sand blow for the people from the hostel so me and the couple of mates i had been hanging round with decided to go, at the top of the hill there is a massive sand dune and you can watch the sunset on one side overlooking all this scenery of forests and little villages and on the other side a little bit further down there is a massive sand hill and people had brought over sand boards or whatever you call them.
People were going down this hill standing up or face first lying down but it was a bit bad because a lot either fell off or had a face full of sand so I went for the option of sitting down and holding on to the sides. Mid way down I was losing my balance and the board turned side ways and I ended up going down backwards until I fell off and did a massive tumble, managed to jump back on face first though for the end so I recovered well.
Got back to the hostel in the evening and when I went in my room, I walked in the bathroom and found the toilet had a lot more water than normal so I flushed it but the water overflowed and brown stuff came out so obviously it was blocked. Since I was the one who found it I was the one to tell the hostel owners and everyone so im guessing the staff and my roommates would think I was the person who blocked it, funny though because it was too late to get a plumber because none of the staff knew what to do either so we had to get our rooms changed.
The hostel likes to put on a bit of entertainment every few days and on this night it was a sort of music session from different local artists, the best person had to be the guy who was like a one man band but he could also beat box and play the digeridoo, doing his own mix which involved britney spears and other big names and hits, was pretty cool the guy had talent.
