This morning the weather was not too bad and so after shower and breakfast we were in Clancy and on our way downtown to get our tickets for the various tourist attractions in town. At the visitor information centre we learned that Parks Canada have a similar deal to that of US in that you sign up pay your money and its free entry for a year.
So we did and picked the walks and talks that we were going to see in our time in Dawson. One disappointment was that the First Nations centre is only open on week days. So we made do with a visit to the Keno Sternwheeler steamboat which was interesting and informative. The Parks Canada representative was also very well versed on the history of the town and the boat.
Next we were off to the Robert Service Cabin, which was in amazing condition, you were allowed to look into but not to traipse through the two room cabin. Again there was a Parks Canada person to take you through the life of Robert Service along with reading some of his verse.
This was the long weekend and in Dawson City that is the running of the toilet race around town. We made it down from the cabin in time to see some of the teams racing past on their quest along with the winning team arriving at the finish line. It was all a lot of fun a little like some of our outback race meetings. The teams build toilets on wheels and someone must be on the throne at all times as they race through the town completing quests.
After this we joined another of the guided walk of the city "strange things happen under the midnight sun". This walk through the city gave you some of the history along with access to some of the historic buildings being maintained by Parks Canada.
To finish up an already amazing cultural day we went on a tour of the Commissioners Residence. Here again we got to see a building in near original state along with a deal of the history associated with the office and the occupants.
To make sure that we did not stop with this we raced up to the dome above Dawson City, a rocky outcrop that was associated with First Nation and more recent activities. The views of the surrounds including Yukon River and the city were great. Even got to see a para-glider take a leap off the outcrop. Amazingly it was still early evening so we drove down town and had a great meal at Klondike Kate's Cabins & Restaurant http://www.klondikekates.ca/ even better was the WiFi that we were able to utilise after dinner to catch up on some things.
With such an awesome day completed, light disappearing and batteries draining we packed up headed back to the Bonanza Gold Motel & RV Park http://www.bonanzagold.ca/ for a goodnights rest and another busy day tomorrow.

Rachel Sounds like a great trip! Did you see the northern lights?
Shoeleh Shoeleh responding- It was too light when we were in Alaska and Yukon, but we are hoping to see the northern lights on our trip to Churchill (northern Canada) next week.
