Our sailing trip didn't prove to be quite as much of a drunken affair as Fraser Island but the reason why became apparent after hours spent violently swaying from side to side over choppy seas. We borded the S.V Whitehaven armed with boxes of goon (what else?) and filled with anticipation. Sadly, the staff weren't very exciting or informative to start with. It later transpired that they were all hungover following a heavy night out in Airlie Beach.
As we were also hungover that day, we headed straight to front of the boat in our bikinis and laid our towels down so we could soak up some rays. During this time, I fell asleep and woke up feeling sick. Lovely. As soon as we got off the boat to go snorkelling, I managed to pull myself together and give it a go. I got to test out my camera underwater properly (last time doesn't count because it was submerged into a pint of goon) but there are more photos of us posing than pictures of tropical fish. Plus, watching Nicki wear the lifejacket she had unnecessarily hired out was far more amusing.
That night, I fully intended to camp out on deck. I brought up my blankets, wore extra layers and by the time I had put down my roll matt and got myself snug and warm it started pissing down with rain! Aaaaarrrrggghhhh! Still, we got to have a proper girly night, mainly because 90% of the guests were female! We got bored of the goon after a couple of hours and exchanged our cups for bars of chocolate and brought out a deck of cards.
The second day the crew came out of their skins a bit more and we were raring to go after our yummy breakfast. We went to Wide Open bay for a bit more snorkelling and Whitehaven Beach. We had a 10 minute hike to the Beach from Tongue Bay - allegedly named after nearby Clitoris Bay according to our guide - however it took is half an hour because Matty, our guide decided to stop at an ants nest and get us to lick the ants arses, yes, LICK their arses! Apparently the aboriginal people used to do this to get some vitamin C down them.
It was a great trip and I'm glad we returned with 2 leftover boxes of goon because there is no way even the strongest of persons could stomach that.
