I have been so lazy with updating my blog whoops! I am currently living with a family in Baulkham Hills which is in the North West of Sydney. I had to move there to be near to work in Bella Vista, where I am working in the legal department of the Woolworths Head Office! Woolworths are the biggest retailer in Australia and not in any way affiliated with the UK Woolworths! The guys who started up the company actually named it after Woolworths for a laugh and managed to avoid all legal implications in doing so.
It's probably worth mentioning to those of you who were concerned, I am nowhere near the bushfires in Victoria! The Australian spirit is really heart warming. Many companies (including Woollies) have donated over a million dollars as well donating profits on designated days. I've never seen anything like it. People from Sydney travelling down to Melbourne to help out and people donating clothes and food from all over. Touching stuff!
Anyways, working in a lovely plush office but feel like I'm not being true to myself. I came out here to travel, not settle back into the old routine I came all the way to Aussie land to escape! It's good money though and I need to save before I continue. There is a real shortage of jobs in Sydney at the mo so I'd be a fool to leave. The economy has been hit hard here, almost as much as the UK. I'm lucky to even have work. Most of my friends have been forced to move on.
The family I'm staying with are really friendly, they have done so much for me already, I'm enjoying being looked after and spoiled! Plus their son is around my age so I have someone to talk to when it gets boring in the evening. Although I couldn't sleep on Friday because he scared the crap out of me by telling me loads of ghost stories.
I still venture back out into the city at the weekend's and stay at the Chili Blue hostel I love so dearly! It's such a weird contrast, Kings Cross to the green, suburban Hills Shire district.
It's not all boring though I'm making lots of plans for March and April. Heading to Melbourne next month, including a short trip to Tassie then campervanning it from Melbourne to Adelaide then onto Alice Springsto see the spiritual Ayre's Rock followed by a tour to Darwin and then a short flight to Cairns! From there I'll either go to Perth or travel down the East Coast. Unfortunately this still leaves a few gaps in my list of 'must-see' destinations, so I think I'll be coming back after June, what a hardship!
Going to the Lindt Chocolate Cafe today, mmmmmmm...
Then the Hunter Valley vineyards next weekend after seeing the Fratelli's play live in Kings Cross on the Friday night!
I may have been in Sydney for nearly 2 months now but there is still loads to do.
Ciao for now!
