OK so Im halfway through an 8 hour layover in Lima airport. Not much fun realy. Its pretty sparse as far as airports go - some duty free shops, a couple of restaurants and a massage parlour. Thankfully the restaurants take credit cards cause Ive got no Peruvian currency left and there is no currencly exchange place this side of immigration.
Well the last few days since I left the Tucan group have been interesting. I miss Jo, Becs and even Fabio heaps. My trip to the salt flats was a mixed bag. On the one hand the scenery was spectacular and I saw some amazing sights. On the other, I was promised a stay in a salt hotel and a visit to the necropolis (complete with mummies) neither of which eventuated. Seems I payed double the actual price of the tour just to have transport from La Paz to Uyuni and back. Ripped off but live and learn. I guess when i come back to Bolivia I will have to make sure I find a reputable company that does what it promises... and I will be coming back. Bolivia has a lot to offer and is surprisingly cheap (in spite of airfares).
I shared my salt flats trip with 3 guys from Uruguay who spoke very little English, and a guy and girl from Sweden who spoke perfect english but preferred to converse in Swedish. Needless to say I missed the Angels. We saw some gorgeous sights though - the salt flats themselves are amazing but the lagoons and desert areas are even more spectacular. Hopefully I will have internet on easter island so can upload photos to give you an idea (although none of my pics will do it justice.)
For anyone thinking of doing it... be prepared. Jeeps are crampedm accommodation is basic at best BYO toilet paper and dont expect to shower. Food was crap but edible. And every second of suffering is totally worth it
