Slept the whole flight from Lima to Hanga Roa, Easter Island (otherwise known as Isla de Pasqua in Spanish). Transfer didnt arrive to meet me at the airport (what is it with me and organised transfers? not one has turned up on this trip!) A nice lady from another hotel checked my documents and got a taxi for me telling the driver he was to make the hotel pay. After a brief discussion at the hotel (who had not been informed I had a transfer booked???) they did pay and I got to check in and wait half an hour for my room.
Room is lovely and big and bed oh so comfy I slept another couple of hours. My room has a bath! Oh so enjoyed the soak (alhough not very hot) and the chance to wash my hair which was horrid after the salt flats. Feeling human again I decided to check out the town on foot in daylight.
Hanga Roa is very cute... feels very much like a country island town. Very little traffic and most of that is motor bikes or quads. Only the main streets are paved - the rest are dirt. I found the bank and eventually (through trial and error) deciphered the spanish enough to get some cash out. Have to get used to the new exchange rate - A$1 = 500 Chilean. Things feel REALLY expensive. It was 1500 for a can of coke at lunch! I did find a nice restaurant on the water and watched the surfers as I ate my grilled tuna steak with sweet potato and grilled pineapple. Have seen my first Maoi in town as well as other carvings and am so excited for my full day guided tour tomorrow to see other more substantial sites!
Think I'll take it easy tonight and utilise the wifi :)
