What an awesome day! This morning we met our local guide Alex and headed to the Brazilian side of the falls. First stop was the bird park which was great. They rescue exotic birds from nightclubs etc and rehabilitate them. They had all sorts of things including several different toucans, macaws and parrots. They even had reptiles such as turtles and anacondas, and a butterfly enclosure. You were able to walk inside some of the aviaries and the butterfly enclosure which was awesome. Before leaving the park I was able to hold a beautiful blue and gold macaw which I loved.
After leaving the bird park we headed across the road for a helicopter ride over the falls. Mick, Harriet, Nella and I shared a chopper and we had a fabulous time seeing these amazing waterfalls from the air! Seeing them yesterday from water level was spectacular, but seeing them from the air added a whole new appreciation for the scale and magnitude! All too soon our ride was over and we headed down to earth for a quick buffet lunch (average).
Next stop was the Brazilian side of the falls. Whilst not as expansive as the Argentinian side, (far easier on the feet) the walkway along the coastline gave photo op after photo op of spectacular vistas. The viewing platform at the devils throat end gave us a welcome opportunity to cool down as the spray from the falls soaked us through. Everyone was in a good mood laughing and hugging and just appreciating this amazing feeling of experiencing nature.
We had a couple of hours back at the hotel to lie in the sun by the pool (or in it) then a few of us headed across the road for a seafood dinner. Muquache (sp?) is basically like a paella but with the rice on the side and was pretty good (mind you anything with even the teensiest bit of flavour tastes great after eating salty bland stodge for so long!)
Hopefully after such a great day I'll be able to sleep on the night bus to Curitiba tonight
