Our final day in Australia!
We got up early to check out at 9.30am, but then spent the next couple of hours sorting out our laundry and reading in the sun on the terrace. Hannah, Vick and Anna had booked to go on a Neighbours tour to Ramsay Street at 12.30pm, so we got a tram into town and met Anna and Jon at a cafe next door to the Neighbours shop.
As Jon and I weren't going on the Neighbours tour, we went to the Disney exhibition at ACMI, the moving image museum. I managed to wangle a student ticket for $12 which was good. The exhibition was amazing, it covered everything from the very beginnings of Disney with the cartoon shorts, then the classic films from Snow White and Cinderella right through to Princess and the Frog and Tangled. There were drawings, paintings, concept and character development drawings (Snow White with blonde hair for example) and cels from the films which were so cool to see up close. There were also things like old fairytale books which Walt Disney drew his inspiration from, and clips of the films to sit and watch. The exhibit was huge and we easily spent over two hours looking at everything - I'm really glad I went.
I realised during the exhibit that I'd lost my hoody, so Jon and I walked back to the cafe we'd met in. It was just about to close but luckily we made it in time and they had my hoodie - phew!
We then got on the free city circle tram to meet the girls at Victoria Markets, but unfortunately the markets were closed so we sat and had a drink instead. I had lemon, lime and bitters - it's a popular drink in Aus but it is really nice so I'm going to start asking for it at home!
After our drink it was time to say goodbye to Jon and Anna :( before heading back to the Nunnery. I had a shower and got changed before going online and updating my blog and checking my email, and then it was time to get the taxi to the airport.
We were starving and were planning to eat at the airport. After spending ages going through check in, security (we got our tomato puree confiscated) and customs, we were looking forward to finding a nice place to eat, but unfortunately there was no choice at all so we had to settle for a cafe place. I had a nice egg, cheese and bacon focaccia though.
As we were walking through to the gates looking for something to eat, we bumped into Martin and Katie who we were with in Fraser Island! It's so cool how you bump into people everywhere you go. They had just flown in from New Zealand and were waiting for their connection to Kuala Lumpur.
We sat and ate with them before saying our goodbyes and heading to the gate for our flight to Fiji....and so Australia is over! Can't believe it has gone so quickly!
