On our last day at Uprising I got up at 9.45am and handed in my key before having some porridge for breakfast, then going back to the room to pack my bag.
We spent the next couple of hours just lounging around the pool, making the most of our last chance to sunbathe before heading to the cooler NZ.
At 1.15pm we went to get a bus to Nadi, where we are staying for the night before going to the airport in the morning.
The bus was a rickety old local thing with what I'm fairly sure had a lawnmower engine to power it - it was really loud and travelled at max speed 2mph whenever there was a slight incline. On the journey I saw a selection of animals including dogs, donkeys, cows, horses and goats. Fiji is actually really undeveloped - I think for some reason I had expected it to be quite Western and sleek, but I think that is probably from the advertising that the resorts do.
When we arrived in Nadi, a not very nice town, we headed straight for Downtown Backpackers, where they didn't actually have any record of our booking or the fact that we had paid a deposit, but let us stay anyway. The receptionist made a great show about how he had 'upgraded' us from an 8 bed to a 4 bed dorm, and asked us to write a positive review of the hostel. I probably won't be doing that, the room was really quite skanky, the bathroom lights or the air con didn't work and the fan was about to fall off the ceiling, the beds were like lumpy concrete, and there was a really loud nightclub next door which stopped me falling asleep for ages.
We ordered a pizza to the room because we didn't really want to venture to Nadi at nighttime. After the pizza, at 7pm, Miss 'fall asleep immediately and stay asleep all night' Taylor fell asleep immediately and stayed asleep all night, fully clothed, on top of her bedcovers. I am very jealous of her slumbering abilities.
I eventually fell asleep at around 10pm, only to be woken up again at 1.30am when the club kicked out, and a huge, really aggressive argument kicked off. I genuinely thought I might hear a gunshot (luckily I didn't)! I eventually fell asleep again at about 3am.
