Luckily my second day in Zanzibar was a bigger success than the first! Well, apart from the fact that we turned up for breakfast at 7.30 when apparently it started at 6.30! My wounds must have got me some sympathy so, as we still ate our brekkie! We went on a trip around Zanzibar with our tour Danny, he also took us to a spice plantation: first stop was a church in town and the prison where slaves were kept before being sold off. As usual I banged my head on the way in! Feeling sorry for myself today, as my injuries were starting to sting, and everyone else seemed to have forgotten what happened! It was then that I wanted to call home, but resisted as they couldn't really give me the hugs I wanted!
We had lunch at Danny's brother's home, a traditional meal of Tanzanian curry and rice, very nice! For dessert we had every fruit imaginable: pineapple, red bananas, papaya, passion fruit, and a few others I can't quite remember! The only thing that ruined it was the huge biting ants that seemed to swarm in when we were saying our goodbyes! How quickly I forgot my pain and ran for the bus!
The visit to the spice island was very cool: we smelt all the herbs and spices and watched in awe as one of the blokes climbed a coconut tree with his bare hands and just a piece of rope around his feet! Oh, and the machete he had to chop the coconuts! It was when we noticed the machete that we moved from directly beneath him to watch!
They made us banana leaf handbags (handy after last night), bracelets, necklaces, and rings! The boys had boring hats and ties though! I'm sure the guides had been sniffing one too many of their herbs and spices because they were far too jolly, but hey ho, if you can't beat them join them. The jolly bit, not the sniffing things bit!
