Well I was introduced to the Sydney's red light district last night, courtesy of Alison's brother! Met in a bar called Scary Canary next to Robert's hostel and waited until they'd done a free prize draw for $50 behind the bar: alas, we did not win! Walked through Hyde Park and down Oxford Street to get to the next place, may as well have been in London! Unfortunately though they ask for ID here a lot, so the fact that my ID was in my locker in the hostel and the $10 entry fee they wanted meant more walking along Sydney's 'cosmopolitan streets', as Robert called them! Walked to Kings Cross, where I always seemed to lose at the 'spot the prostitute' game - I still don't think I'm too eagle eyed to win that game, although the one wearing a belt for a skirt and fishnet hold-ups kind of gave her identity away!
We listened to a few dodgy covers in an Irish bar, lots of Crowded House apparently - I'd never heard them before! They also tried to cover 500 Miles by The Proclaimers, Scottish accent included! It was so poor, but entertaining alongside the middle-aged men trying to woo the women with their collars outside their suits, dodgy dancing, and out of time clapping!
I'm clearly not a beer drinker any more, as after 3 (only 1 was a pint!) I was struggling and had to admit defeat: my next trip to the Wrekin Tap may be a cheap affair! My head the next morning was a little woolly, so maybe Sharon succeeded in Busselton in her attempt to make me a wine drinker - I'll put it to the test when home!
Made my way over to Paddy's Markets on Sunday morning. They're indoor markets, nothing like the ones at The Rocks I saw on Saturday! To be honest, they're pretty much just like Birmingham's indoor market, but with a load of tacky Australian souvenirs. I shouldn't judge though, as I ended up buying one of the tacky t-shirts for $8! It was the cheapest I'd seen them, and it's got the road signs showing koalas, crocs, and kangaroos on it! Also bought some of those leather bracelets that only backpackers tend to wear: just the night before I'd been attacking them in front of Robert, I'm such a hypocrite. These ones are pretty though!
After another look around Darling Harbour near the markets, I wandered over the bridge, not THE bridge, and saw the demonstration of the mid-section twisting round. It was pretty impressive, although quite a slow movement so I got a little bored whilst watching!
The rest of my Sunday was just as Sundays usually are: quiet and relaxing! Bliss.
