So after two weeks I can finally access a computer and put together some form of evidence that I am actually away from Coniston Drive; although it may take a while as the computer in Zanzibar is a little slow and the keys are not responding to my typing as they should be!
Setting off from the airport didn't set me in the greatest direction unfortunately: somehow managed to be late for check-in after they decided to rescan my passport for the Kenyan visa, this was followed by a long queue at security and a subsequent run to across terminal 5 to the shuttle, and up into the plane. At least that running came in handy! Oh well, it took my mind off the tears that kept on escaping as I waved to mum and dad.
Once on the plane all seemed good, sat next to some bloke who decided to enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine with every meal, snack, and even hello! Flight wasn't too bad overall, and Dad you'll be glad to know I did get out of my seat and use their facilities! Once I'd been given my visa and found my bag, I spotted the taxi driver and met up with 3 other people doing the tour that had been on my plane and we made our way back to the Heron Hotel. The hotel that was so not worth 40pounds! The shower was cold, the bed had bugs, and the breakfast was foul, the first two problems did not help me fight back the tears as I unpacked my things for the following day!
Well I managed to sleep fine so at least I wasn't too worried, and the following morning I was ready with the rest of the tour to be collected at 8am. Unfortunately Nairobi has a rush hour too, and the truck didn't reach us until 9! We met our tour guide Heath, driver VJ, and cook Lucky. Don't be fooled that we had a cook, we still had to muck in!
Having loaded the truck (never to be called a bus!) we went to the supermarket and changed some money, then the adventure began...
