Day 83 18th feb
We awake from a good nights sleep... The hotel room is modern comfortable and clean so sleep is no issue..
We sit around the out door table to have breakfast.. You can tell the owner is western, the tea and coffee are great, and although the cereals are simple there just what you'd get at home... It's really nice, as are the owners themselves who we spend the next hour or more talking with....
Having had enough tea for one morning I take myself back to the room to blog write whilst Shiree goes off "shopping" I'll soon be another year older and I guess she's birthday present shopping so I'm happy for her to wonder off..
These blogs take a surprisingly large amount of time, and it's very easy to spend 2 or 3 hrs at a time on them without knowing you've done it...
Shiree arrives back and jumps in the shower... Apparently it's hot outside, but I wouldn't really know... I've had the air con on for ages and the temperature in the room is nice and cool...
Having spent enough time blog writing for one day a pop the phone on charge and we head out... We've had a quick wonder around the local roads that are next to the beach so have decided to venture more inland... The road we end up on is the main ring road of the island and has far more traffic using it than the roads around the pier, but it's fine... The sun is beating down and we are happy to be just out and about and doing something... We walk for a couple of hours at least before changing direction and heading back, and despite the buy road on which we've been walking the only downside we've come across is the undulating level of the road, and potholes, one of which Shiree manages to stubbed her toe on....
We've crossed the road for our return walk and head off in a new direction.... We think figure if we follow a quieter road to our right that it'll lead us to the beach so follow it we do... And 40 mins later we are back where we started... The road might very well lead to the beach.... Eventually, but i doubt it'll be the one we want to be on as it seemed to do nothing but go up hill....
Once back in relatively familiar territory we venture off coarse again, this time confident we know where we'll end up. We stumble across a locals market which we walk around... This one is completely under cover which is unusual, there is all manner of things available here, but the thing that catches our eye is a stall selling live fish and crabs amongst many other sea life creatures.... We are not sure if the stall is selling food or pets, but either way there is not one animal on display you'd want to have as a pet, let alone on a plate....
There is also a stall selling spices, some of which have been made into pastes.... Thai red, green and yellow spices are all available, and are sold by the bag... Unfortunately this bag contains spices that are just spooned into it and the top is simply tied in a not, so I doubt we'd get it home so we leave them be.....
Leaving the market we rejoin the quieter streets, soon passing our hotel and continuing to the central road junction by the pier... We've walked this area before but this time go further along the three roads checking out every shop and resultant along the way whilst keeping an eye open for a possible place to return to this evening for food...
There are a number of taylors in this town and shiree has the brain wave of taking the dress she'd had made in Vietnam to one so they can adjust the length... She had originally intended to ware high heels with it, but now wants it shorter to enable her to ware flat shoes, so after checking out a couple for the best price we go back to the room, grab the dress and leave it with a taylor before heading off to the beach for a chill out...
The water is as flat as a pond and blue... There's not a cloud in the sky... In the distance a number of small islands are visible along with a number of hired jet skis... It's looks good fun, but after a couple of minutes you notice the jet skies just going up and down the beach... You almost need something to do on one to make them more interesting I think...
Having returned and showering we head back out to town for dinner... We end up in an Irish bar as they sell Guinness and although it wasn't are initial intention we end up staying the night and ordering food... Spare ribs.
When they arrive I'm open mouthed... These are not spare ribs, there all the ribs, there is loads of them, and it takes quite a while to work my way through them.... The portion size here is massive... Way bigger than needed, but as the food is good neither of us had any trouble finishing before heading off to bed.
