I started my day in Warsaw, by giving my six passengers an orientation. I walked them over the Vistula river bridge and pointed out the stadium that is to be used for the Euro soccer tournament in a months time. I pointed out the 13th Century castle, the main square and the entrance to the old town.
Once we were in the Old town I walked them to the main square and told them the story of the little mermaid's sister, who is now the mascot of Warsaw and whose statue stands in a fountain in the old town square.
I walked them down to see the house Marie Curie was born in, she was the discovered for radium and polonium and won two nobel prizes. I ended my walk at the last square in front of a big white church with a green roof. I said goodbye to Isabel who was immediately leaving for Krakow. I was now going back in the other direction to get to the station. Catherine and Andy decided to come with me, so I went via the University and the statue of Copernicus and also the eternal flame. I ended up a little lost as there was extensive road works going on. However, I keep the Palace of Culture, Stalin's gift to the city with in my sights and I got there in the end.
I got to the shopping area and everything was closed as it was some kind of public holiday. Catherine and Andy decided to go back to the hotel and I went to buy the tickets for Krakow. To my delight as I only needed to buy four, I didn't need to wrangle with a Polish ticket seller and could get them from the machine, which had an English option. We do love it when things are easy, don't we?
After I had gotten some work done for the day I went to hunt up lunch. I ended up in the Hard Rock Café, whose giant American guitar shaped sign almost blocked the Palace Of Science and Culture. f*** you Communism! I love it. I had an amazing steak, which was made even more amazing by how cheap it was. I sat there savoring every bite, before walking the one and a half hours back to the hotel, where I collapsed into bed, but not to sleep. I spent the rest of the day booking bus tickets for my next tour and also trying to cancel most of my Greek holiday. I have been offered some work with expat explore, who pay really well. Its also in western Europe, so there's a few more countries to visit that I haven't been to. I love it when things like that just land in my lap.
