I started my day off in a less than glamorous fashion, by dying my hair, or dying mostly my head and managing to get a little bit on my hair. I had a skype chat with Mum and Dad after I had washed off the dye and while I was chatting to Mum, I saw someone walk past with a full English breakfast with actual bacon! I darted off to get the same, which only cost me the equivalent of about four dollars.
At 11am my driver came to pick me up, this time she had brought her sister Catherine along for the ride. It's good we are leaving early, she said, we can take our time. If only I knew. We made the three hour drive to Nakuru in two hours and that was with a pit stop! We swerved in and out of oncoming traffic, around huge trucks, flew over pot holes big enough to lose a cow. It was terrifying, it was dangerous and it was Africa.
We arrived at the campsite and I said goodbye to the driver and met the keeper Sebastian. There was no one there and the truck wasn't due to arrive until 6pm to I pulled up a lounge chair and had a bit of a sleep. I woke up at about 5:30pm and got roped into watching this Korean world war two film, which was badly dubbed in English, just as I was about to get to the end of this train wreck, someone came and changed the channel and told me I was to be given dinner as the truck had broken down and they now wouldn't be here until 10pm.
After I had finished my dinner, I was told I was to be shown to my room. Room? I thought, what happened to the tent I was expecting. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth I followed the man to a permanent tent like room and dumped all my stuff and set about watching TV for the next hour or so, before having another nap, which turned out to be such a deep sleep I could barely lift my eyelids, when Susan the tour leader came in to see me. It was a brief meeting, she and her group were tired and everyone was just going straight to bed. She told me what time to be up in the morning, breakfast at 5:30am (ahhh back to overlanding) and went to her own room. I instantly went back to sleep.
