Again today, I attempted to make a promise to myself. Have a rest.
I must admit it did work better today. I managed to sleep in until about 9am and sat around watching TV for about an hour, before I went out to run a few errands. My number one plan for today was to get a new SIM card as the one I had was next to useless. I had a bit of trouble locating a phone shop, so I went into the tourist info who pointed me in the direction of a large shopping mall.
I managed to get a new Estonian pre paid SIM card easily in there, and while I was there I decided to have a bit of a look around. The first thing I found was a giant comic shop, that sold nano bots! Just like in Red Dwarf, they had lots of other awesome things, but of course I wouldn't be able to carry anything. There was also a large cinema complex, so I thought I would check out the session times.
They actually had The Avengers playing, a movie which I had waiting for, so I bought a ticket for 1pm. I now had about two hours to kill before the movie started so I trudged back to the old town in the heat. I can't believe how hot it has gotten there in just five weeks! It was snowing the last time I was here. I had some lunch in the old town, McDonalds again and went back to the shops.
The Avengers was in 3D, much better 3D with better glasses than back home. It was an awesome movie, with lots of cheesy lines. I enjoyed every minute, especially the minutes with Robert Downey Jnr as Tony Stark! (That's Iron Man for all of you non nerds)
I know what everyone's thinking of me going to see a movie in Tallinn. You're half way across the world and your going to the movies! You can do that at home! Yes I realise that. Look at it this way. This is my life now, I'll be back in Tallinn in about six weeks, The Avengers will only be at the movies once. Life has undergone a funny sort of reversal for me. Sometimes in this life on the road, you do also like to experience something where there is some assemblance of normalcy.
After the movie I went back to the hotel to continue on my promise of resting until dinner. I got about 3 hours in before I had to give a new pre departure meeting at 6pm, for one client as the other new joiner had gone to Helsinki for the day. Awkward.
I then took what was left of the group out for dinner to a themed restaurant called Old Hansa. It was really good, the food was excellent and it was the type of place where, when you asked for a Coke, they replied, I am from the days of yore I know not of this Coke.
After dinner, Catherine and Andy wanted to show me this café in which they had lunch. It was in a nice location and taking pictures of ourselves in the glass made spooky looking reflections in our cameras at sunset. We stood there taking cheesy artsy shots for a few minutes, before heading back to the hotel. I take my little group to Riga, my favourite of the Baltics tomorrow.
