Korcula. I've been looking forward to this for months. We left Mljet really early, I woke up and we were already in motion. The day had fined up significantly and we actually stopped so the passengers could go swimming, I decided not to go in…why I don't know, I jumped in the freezing plunge pool in Siberia.
After the swim stop we pulled in at the town of Lumbarda on the island of Korcula and Janice gave me a quick tour. We hung around in Lumbarda until lunch time and then moved on to Korcula, where my activity for the day was to go on the buggy safari. As there was only an hour to go before we were collected for that I decided to stay on Mlini and sit in the sun and Janice went over to organise the other boat.
When it came time to be collected, Zoran who runs the safari came and collected us in his cruiser and we went and sat up the top. We then went over to Aurora and collected the people doing the safari on that boat and went back to Lumbarda. The buggies were waiting for us and everyone paired up and jumped in, except me, who is petrified of driving anything after rolling a quad bike in Turkey. I had my own driver, a really cute guy named Ivan, who drove the buggy just fast enough to make me squeal a bit, but didn't terrify me.
It was a bit muddy in places due to the rain and Ivan drove through the mud for the most part slowly, he looked at me and said, when this is over, I have to clean them and I laughed. He did drive through one puddle quite fast and covered both of us in muddy water, he looked at me and said, on this trip you will get dirty, expecting me to be all girly and protest about my now muddy Bazinga hoodie and mud smeared face. To his surprise I wiped the mud off my face with my sleeve and said, it's ok, it's just a bit of mud.
Ivan drove the buggy through some fantastic scenery, cliffs overlooking the bright blue ocean and heaps of wineries. We stopped at the beach, although no one wanted to swim, the four girls from Mlini and I sat in a café and drank coffee and took off all out warm clothes and sat in the sun for about forty minutes.
After our stop we drove the buggies to a winery for some wine tasting and to see how they make the wine which was quite interesting and then we drove back to Lumbarda via another pretty little fishing village, with all it's small boats moored up in the little harbour, with the sky reflecting in the clear green water as they bobbed up and down.
When we got back to Lumbarda, Zoran took us back to Mlini in his cruiser and passed us up some wine, prosciutto and cheese to sit in the sun and enjoy. This is certainly the life, sitting on top of a crusier drinking wine in the Adriatic and getting paid for it. We arrived back at the boat and I went off to find Janice in the town, Janice was a BBQ Loco one of our partner restaurants. She had been for a run and was talking to Nikki the owner, who she had already warned me, was crazy. (I tell Janice, from what she has told me, he's probably my soul mate) I met Nikki and Mario his bartender….possibly the cutest, cheekiest guy I've ever met in my life. Janice and I told Nikki we would be back with the group for dinner and set off to show me the town.
This is where I'm moving, as if Split wasn't nice enough. I'm now moving to the home of Marco Polo, the man who travelled from Venice to Beijing. It's perfect. The town is perfect, it's like a little Venice without the canals. Italian renaissance architecture, Venetian lions and cannons everywhere, washing hanging between the small streets and alleyways between buildings…..and the best party scene in Croatia. I get to live here for six weeks? How did I, even with my extreme dumb luck at times manage this? God knows.
When my quick whip round the town is over, we go back to BBQ Loco for dinner which is really amazing pizza for me. Nikki also gives everyone a free shot of Rakjia, which is a bit better than the crap they gave us in Dubrovnik, however, it still tastes like a combination or Vodka, Tequila and paint stripper and if abused would probably make you go blind at some point.
After dinner we go back to the boat to get changed, Bobo has made Janice and I this strange creation of cream, berries, smarties and strawberries which he presents to us when we arrive. I think as a peace offering more than anything… I think one of the other guys has said something to him about making me feel uncomfortable and Janice had told him out right to back the hell off her. I appreciate the gesture and thank Bobo, hoping that's the end of it.
We leave for the night club, Janice starts teasing me that I've got a bit of a crush on Toni who is one of the sailors on Mlini, I decide its pointless to deny it as he's one of the best looking guys I've ever seen. We get side tracked at the pizza place along the way. We walk in the door and Nikki immediately puts a cocktail in front of me. An orgasm, Nikki and Mario are teasing the waitress who is a bit shy, because she walked in to work this morning and said, I had two orgasms last night (meaning the drink). Mario then makes me the same drink in a shot, I tell him that's not an orgasm, it's a quickie! Which makes him and Nikki laugh raucously. Nikki puts him arm around me and starts telling me about his cousin who lives in Australia and has worked in Alice Springs. Alice Springs? I say, Why would he move from Korcula to Alice Springs? Nothing to do there but drink VB and shag sheep! Nikki explodes laughing, tells Mario who also becomes slightly hysterical, gives me a fist bump and passes me another orgasm. I think we are going to get along just fine.
Mario leaves the restaurant and heads over to the nightclub where he is working for the rest of the night. Janice and I follow suit about half an hour later. We arrive and most of the group are already there, I waste no time climbing up and dancing on the stripper pole for most of the night. I decide that dancing is the best policy to try to avoid the new rep hazing system, whereby everyone in the bar passes you drinks and until you either make a fool of yourself (which I have no problem doing sober anyway) or pass out. This doesn't really work here and Nikki seeks me out and gives me another drink. I then sit at the bar and Nikki sees me and points me out to Mario and who comes over and asks me what I want. I ask for a Jack Daniels and Coke and he gives me a double. Even in Turkey, I couldn't get JD for on the house.
I actually get to meet Nikki's cousin who is working in Korcula for the summer, his name is Rocco. Nikki immediately accuses him of being a sheep shagger. Rocco is about as Aussie as I am and says in his thick Australian accent, I ain't no Kiwi! I yell at Nikki, Context, Nikki, Context!!! Then go about explaining what I actually said to Rocco. Rocco is Nikki's manager and gives me his number telling me if I ever need anything to give him a call. Wonderful, how not like Russia and Eastern Europe this is I think as Nikki gets himself, Rocco, Mario and I a shot and we all say Zjeveli (cheers in Croatian) and knock it back together.
Finally, it's just about closing time and Mario comes over with another orgasm shot and looks at me and says, Quickie? Cheeky b*****. Quickie, has now become my nickname on Korcula. Simply wonderful, thanks Mario. After closing, I am still a bit revved up, so I head off to another club called Gaudi with Rocco and Mario and meet the owner there. Lots of random people buy me drinks and the owner again lets me drink on the house. At about 4am I resolve that I need to go back to the boat as I need to be on Aurora tomorrow by 7:30am. As I leave Gaudi, I am impressed by how coherent I am considering the amount of alcohol I've drunk. I'm not drunk, nowhere near it in fact and manage to find my way back to the boat and the dock through all the winding little streets and alleyways. Perhaps Nikki won't kill me after all.
