Friday morning we got up and drove into Mt Isa and spoilt ourselves with a McDonalds breakfast. Had a bit of a look around, it's really busy with a lot of country folk and aborigines, we worked out it was the start of a 3 day rodeo in town a big event. Wednesday morning we had a good look around the old hospital site at Birdum. There are actually big areas of concrete still there, we think the buildings were actually tents on the concrete. Continued on our way to Katherine this morning. Had lunch in the main street, lots of aborigines. The town is much much bigger than when we spent some time here as relieving manager for Repco Auto Parts in 1976. Very hard to recognize where things were. We are finding it very hot, people are saying they are noticing it getting hotter, we are finding it uncomfortable. Tuesday we had a look around Kununurra and decided we would do the Lake Argyle to Kununurra canoe paddle if we could go the next day and if it was okay to take the dog. We rang and got an okay on all accounts so we were committed. We then had to go and pick up 3 drums and an esky to take with us.
