Continued on our way to Katherine this morning. Had lunch in the main street, lots of aborigines. The town is much much bigger than when we spent some time here as relieving manager for Repco Auto Parts in 1976. Very hard to recognize where things were.
We are finding it very hot, people are saying they are noticing it getting hotter, we are finding it uncomfortable. Back home we have a shop without a tenant, the people renting our house are not paying the bills and Ray has set up and is working two shifts in the factory. With that in mind we came to the decision it's kind of irresponsible not to head home, sort a couple of things out and lend a hand about the place.
So rather than head north to Darwin we turned south heading home. Stopped at Mataranka about 110kms south at the hot springs, lots of people taking a swim, we joined them. It is beautiful the water is 33c about the same as the air temperature so it's really nice to get into and you feel a bit cool when you get out.
We motored on to Birdum just south of Larrimah. In World War 11 there was a hospital set up here, there is nothing other than a sign here now. We have parked in the bush a couple hundred metres off the highway it's still warm and very pleasant expecting it to cool off overnight. I thought it was a good idea to remind Rosemary that we are somewhere about where the English couple were when the bloke disappeared, Rose suggested it might be a good idea to lock the door tonight. Sweet dreams haha.
