After a leisurely start we drove up to Avoriaz which we haven't actually done much before, then turned left and down into Les Lindarets, again along some of the runs we ususally ski. It was fun identifiying some of the runs although I thought some of them looked steeper and more scary without snow than when they do in the winter!! Of course we had to stop to go and have a drink in the Pomme de Pin and then it was on to drive through the Goat Village - what a busy place that is in the summer !! I'm not sure who was more stupid and stubborn about getting out of the way of the car on the orad, the goats or the people!! Once safely through we continued down to Lake Montriond, where again parking was not easy but we eventually managed to park on the road. Phil wanted to swim the length of the lake so I nobly offered to walk alongside him on the path to make sure he was ok and not run over by one of the kayaks or paddleboards being used on the water. We walked along to the far end by Bout de Lac where Phil negotiated the entry into the water before setting off on the 1.5km (we think!!) to the other end. All went very well and we sat on the grass at the other end relaxing until we decided we should go but on walking along the road to go back to our car we saw some policemen who had stopped all traffic and blocked off the road so they could do some measuring of an accident where someone had obviously run into the old wooden building opposite the Verdoyant restaurant and nearly knocked some of the supporting stuts down. As we couldn't move our car anywhere we decided to go back to the restaurant for lunch and were still wondering what to do when we finished as the road was still closed, so we took our kit back to the car and thought we would just sit and read but then the police finally re-opened the road and we go return to Chalet Thalassa, calling into see our nice lady in the shop in Montriond to buy some cold beers on the way. We sat outside Thalassa having a drink until the sky darkened and the heavens opened when we decided to go inside where Steve and Sue soon arrived having timed their return from a bike ride to perfection to avoid the storm! We all walked into town to Dez Alp again, luckily in a break in the rain whre we had a lovely meal. At the end it was still pouring so we asked if the restaurant could ring for a taxi for us - unfortunately there wasn't one available but just as we were girding ourselves up for a very wet walk, the waitress offered to give us a lift in her car!!! How lovely was that, definitely above and beyond the call of duty, but very much appreciated by the four of us!
