Hello! We arrived back in Bangkok after our "holiday in England". The following evening we took a night bus down to Krabi and connected through to the Phi Phi islands the following morning. Have to say we were pleased to be back in the sun! Most of you have been to southern Thailand, so you know all about it. But here it goes…
Koh Phi Phi is a party island. A small town, western style, not the nicest…but it got a beautiful beach. The one day we took a day boat trip with a traditional wooden longboat through the Phi Phi marine park. Have to say it was amazing. We spent the day snorkling. Visited one of the most amazing beaches we have ever seen and swam in a beautiful lagoon. We also went to the neighbouring Phi Phi island to the "The Beach" ( from the movie with Leonardo De Caprio). The sea was very rough that day, ( I seriously thought our little wooden boat would tip over in the big waves) but it meant that no boat could go into "the beach". So we had to moor the in a bay and swim in the big waves to the rocks, climb up using a rope and walk through the forest to get to 'the beach'. Slightly scary with the rocks, a lot of bloody feet and knees. But it all paid off and there were no one at 'the beach" I have to say it felt like we were in the movie...
That same night we decided to take Maria's advise and go party in Thailand. She told us so many times about "the buckets". So we thought it was a good idea (at the time) to try it. Basically a bucket is exactly that, a plastic bucket. They are sold in shops and bars with a bottle of thai rum, thai version Red Bull and coke. They will mix it with ice and give you straws. Then you walk round and look really stupid drinking it. It will only tast of Red bull. We got completely "bucketed"…so to speak. Waking up the next morning was a scary experience…we decided it would be our one and only time we would get bucketed. Don't know if to blame the Thai Rum or the Thai Red Bull or the jet leg or a combination of it all. But we felt proper run down for days.
After that we recouped in Koh Phangan. Stayed in a beautiful hotel with a great beach. Then we moved on to our favorite island Koh Tao. It's a small island with lots of great beach huts and a long nice beach with bars and resturants. We had a great time there. Only thing was leaving the island. You all read about the cyclone that hit Burma, well Thailand got teh tail of it. We got on the boat and had a 2h journey ahead of us. After 2 minutes out on sea we realised it would be hell of a journey. I am not joking but I thought we would die at sea. Let's just say that people did make sure they had a life jacket under their seats. The boat was flying and bouncing in all kind of directions of the waves. They were in the region of 3-4 meters. It would bounce of a wave like a speed boat and land with a loud bang. Everyone would scream. I cried most of the time and the girl next to Phil was throwing up the whole trip. Sometimes you could see the rain and the sky out of the windows on one side and the other windows would be under the surface. But somehow we made it, no more boats for me!!! Currently in Vietnam. Will post Thai pics soon and update you about this crazy place.
