G'Day Mate!
Yeah that's right we are now 'Down Under", Okay enough of the cheesyness…
We arrived in Melbourne on the 26th of February and spent a couple of days there. One night we met up with Nick and Prue, a couple we met on the Inca trail. They took us out for amazing Thai food and quite a few drinks at a very funky bar. Thanks again for a great night!
After that we took a night bus to Sydney. We had trouble finding accommodation for that weekend because it was the Mardi Gras (Gay Festival) let's just say pink was the new black!!! We ended up renting a studio in Balmain, a very upcoming funky suburban town in between Sydney harbour and Darling harbour. Have to say it turned out being a pleasure going into town, a lovely short boat journey with views of the Opera house and the Harbour Bridge. Sydney is our favourite big city, no doubt about it. The harbour areas and the main sights gives it a great feel. One day we walked between Coogee beach and Bondi beach, what a bonus to have city beaches like that!
After that our 3800km drive began. To give you an idea of the distance, Stockholm to Baghdad is 3400km( straight line). We rented a Wicked camper van again (yeah we hadn't had enough of it…hrrmmm) Got one saying LOST, Guy's where are we? Every time we asked for direction people would ask "are you lost?"
First stop was the Blue Mountains, inland from Sydney. What a view! You can see the photos. Our first walk in the 'wilderness' and Sofia almost stood on a giant lizard (quite big anyway) and after that I (Sofia again of course, just my luck) could see a black snake dangerously close to my toes, at that time we turned around.
We quickly had enough of bugs and wilderness and drove on to Hunter Valley, the wine region. Free wine tasting in the vineyards, doesn't that sound great? A fun day, a lot of wine, after 6-7 vineyards with 6 tastings in each we felt like wine experts…our could it be the wine talking?
We continued up the coast. Found a lot of nice beaches. We enjoyed some time in Byron Bay. We went to a Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane. Visited Cape Tribulation area and took a walk in the rain forest there.
Tomorrow we flying to Darwin and we will get ready for our trip in the outback!
Have a Happy Easter and enjoy the time of work!
Sofia and Phil
