Today I had arranged to meet up with Wendy and Jerry in the morning as I had not managed to meet up with them in Brisbane as they moved down to Sydney just before I got there and they have obviously been quite busy with the move, job and house hunting. So I finally managed to get to see them before I left Sydney and headed down to Melbourne on the Greyhound bus that I booked the other day.
We decided to meet up at Circular Quay and then headed out on the ferry round to Darling Harbour as they had not been on the Sydney ferry before. Quickly catching a snap of Wendy and I in front of the Opera House (probably my 100th picture by now, LOL). We had a walk around Darling Harbour stopping for some lunch and watching some of the street performers there. We also could not leave Darling Harbour without first popping into the English Sweetshop (http://www.britishsweets.com.au) and picking up some Caramac bars (thanks Wendy for buying me one) and some strawberry bonbons, mmm!
Our next stop was a walk over to Hyde Park where we paid a visit to the Anzac Memorial (war memorial). Walking out of Hyde Park we noticed that the statue of Captain Cook had been dressed in some clothes. We first thought that it must have been a drunken practical joke and then we started to notice that other important statues had also been dressed up and guessed that it must have been either for the Marathon that was on next weekend or for the Labour Weekend celebrations, I never did find out exactly what it was for.
We continued to have a walk around the Botanical Gardens and then we parted company at around 5pm so that I has time to go back to Adam's house and pack my bag and get to Central station in time to catch my over night Greyhound bus to Melbourne where I was going to be staying with Wendy’s sister Karen and her husband Dave and their daughter Megan.
The bus was on time leaving and I was pretty disappointed with it to be honest as I have become accustomed to the overnight busses in SE Asia which had lay down single beds in them, whereas I had to make do with a chair that reclined slightly for my bed for the night. At least I had my iPhone and some videos to watch to keep me occupied for the 12 hour bus journey.
