I am quite sad today as it is time to pack my backpack and say goodbye to South East Asia. It's definitely been an adventure I will never forget and an experience of a life time. I am so glad that I have been given this opportunity to do this, even at my age!!!
Goodbye and hopefully see you in the very near future, xxx
My flight to Cairns, Australia is not until 20:25 tonight, so I pack up my bags and leave them at the hostel and go for one final walk around the area. I grab some lunch in a local restaurant and head back to the hostel where I arrange for a shuttle bus to come and pick me up directly from the hostel as I didn’t fancy carry my bags on the train again today. It was quite a long walk to the station and a hassle having to change trains along the way.
The shuttle bus picks me up on time and takes me to the airport. I was a bit worried about being charged excess baggage as I knew my bag was overweight. Oh well, nothing I could do about it if they do. I go to the check in desk and my bag weighs 24.5kg and my allowance is only 20kg but luckily for me they didn’t charge me for this excess weight, actually, they didn’t even mention it.
I bought a small souvenir from the airport and boarded my plane which was to stop at Darwin, Western Australia where I had to get off and change planes.
We arrived at Darwin at around 2am got off the plane and we were all put in a waiting area where all the shops and restaurants were closed, there were 2 vending machines, one didn’t work which was full of food and drinks and the one that did work was completely empty, sods law!
I had to wait 3 hours here and about 1 hour before we were to board the next plane to Cairns, 2 of the shops opened up for us and I was able to get a drink and something to eat.
I boarded the next plane at 5am bound for Cairns.
