As we had a day until our flight to Koh Samui, Damien and I decided to go single track downhill mountain biking and Christina and Julie went off all day to the spa.
I wish I hadn't!!!!!!
We were driven by car up to the top of the mountain in Chiang Mai where the temple was and then given our bikes and full body armour and asked to show our skills by riding over a few obstacles. After this the instructor/guide took us off for the downhill single track saying it should take around 2-2.5 hours to complete. We got about 30 minutes in to the downhill section when I fell off. Not just fell off but stacked it big time. I had the wind knocked out of me and could not talk for a good 5 minutes. After being picked up and asked if I was OK, we sat around for a while for me to recover, then carried on. After this, any confidence I had in mountain biking was gone and the next 2 hours seemed to take ages and after I crashed for a second time, this time I went over the handle bars, I decided enough was enough, but the only way out was down the track. So at any real steep part, I got off and walked down.
Back at the mountain bike shop, we dropped off the bikes and body armour and I had a chance to examine myself. A few cuts and bruises and what I think was a bruised (or could be a fractured) rib. Oh well, nothing I could do now, the damage was done!
Tonight, we went out and had some dinner, and a couple drinks as there was still a curfew on and we had had a heavy night the night before.
