After leaving the pristine islands of Los Roque we flew back to Caracas. The plan was to jump straight on an over night bus to begin our journey to Angel Falls ... but the buses were full for the next 48hrs! Things got worse when we discovered all the hotels were also full too! Luckly our driver, George helped us find a hotel, but it was in the rough end of the city and as Caracas claims to be the most dangerous city in the world (15000 murders each year and rising) we didn't dare leave the hotel until morning.
The following day George picked us up and took us to a better hotel where we were at least able to venture out - although still risky the walk around after dark. Our new Venezuelan friends, Carolina and Gustavo (we meet them in Los Roques) took us out to dinner where we were entertained with Spanish dancing ... great!
Next day Carolina and Gustavo gave us a guided tour of Caracas. Lunch was a traditional Venezuelan dish, Cachama corn pancakes with pork - delicious! That evening we boarded our overnight bus to begin the long journey to Angel Falls. The air-conditioning on Venezuelan buses is so strong we almost froze to death for the whole 10 hours!
