We arrived In Lusaka and we couldn't believe our eyes..it was the most civilised city we had seen since Nairobi complete with two huge shopping malls one of them housing a massive Spar. We walked in and our eyes were bulging as all the foods we had dreamt about for weeks were there right before our eyes. We felt like kids in a chocolate factory and didn't know what to put in our trolley first. Whilst it was good for us it was a bit of a disappointment as we wanted Peter's sister Paula and her husband Steve to see Africa as we had seen it not just like any other country. We had bacon and egg sandwiches and coffee at one italian run coffee shop and it was delicious.. they even had brown sauce!!!
We spent a few days in Lusaka but eventually the day arrived for Paula and Steve to land and we drove to the airport to meet them. Whilst waiting in arrivals we met the guy who was delivering their hire vehicle and he had been on the same campsite as us the night before. Of more coincidence though was the fact that he was actually an American Missionary (he was only delivering the vehicle as a favour) living in Livingstone 2 days drive away and as we spoke to him we realised he was the guy that some of our fellow overlanders had spoken about. They met him, his name was Patrick, and his fellow missionarys as they drove an overland truck through the Sudan for delivery to Livingstone and he had given some of our friends a lift in the truck. We couldn't believe what a small world it is!!
Patrick went through the handover process quickly and we were soon driving out of the airport for something to eat and then to the campsite where Paula & Steve could get familiar with their home for the next 2 weeks. We stayed at a campsite called Pioneer camp which has just been taken over buy a young English guy named Paul who was a former game warden at Kafue National Park where we planned to visit next. As Zambia has just suffered the worst rainy season this century and as a consequence the grasses are very high which is not good for game watching, Paul suggested we change our plan and stay at KangU Game Lodge which is just outside the park but has the same wildlife and we decided to take his advise.
