We left Zanzibar on the ferry at 4 p.m. and arrived back in Dar at 6 p.m. We walked past the hotel where George Bush was staying which was surrounded by security and went back to the campsite where we had left the truck. Again it is so hot and humid it is unpleasant sleeping in the camper at the moment and so we decided that we would check into a hotel for the next couple of nights...how wrong we were!! We drove for 70k around the whole of Dar and the surrounding beaches trying to find a hotel but absolutely everything was full due to the Bush visit. Obviously the entourage with him was massive and all the city centre hotels would be full but the beaches had suffered a knock on effect and were full of people who would normally have stayed in the city. We lost count of the number of hotels we went to but eventually found a place which turned out to be like something out of Faulty Towers so many things went wrong. As I have said before this trip is very much a test of your stamina and patience as things in Africa take ages to happen. There is never a shortage of staff its just that they are totally inept. We checked into our room eventually, went to the bar for a drink and when we returned someone elses stuff was also in there. The electricity went off, and the internet kept crashing. At breakfast there was toasting bread but no toaster!! no cold milk for cornflakes you really just have to keep laughing.
