Melanie's Travels - Europe 2005
I began the day slightly lost, I was looking for the Globe Theatre and I had an idea of the general area but no idea how to get there. As I was wandering around lost, with Hannah lagging behind me complaining, I wondered why I brought her along. I would get angry at me and demand to see the map, and after attempting to navigate she would get frustrated and toss the map back at me. There are times that I feel like I am lugging a small child around with me...
When we finally arrived I was disappointed to find out that there was a matinee so we couldn't tour the theatre. I left disappointed and I stumbled upon a Starbucks, I couldn't resist the temptation and I went inside. I was sipping my caramel macchiato and crossing the millennium bridge and I decided to go back to buy tickets to the matinee, Pericles. The show was... well... interesting. It was a cross between Cirque du Soleil and Shakespeare; it had singers, dancers and some very fancy acrobatic rope tricks.
The trip to the globe was very spiritual for me. My grandmother loved Shakespeare and she died when I was very young. Sitting in the Globe waiting for the play to begin, I felt a strange sense of connection with her, like I was able to bring her along with me.
After the play I took Hannah down to Piccadilly Circus. After emerging from the underground Hannah asked "Where is it?" (we were standing right in the center of the square). When I informed her that this was it she was very disappointed. I'm not sure what exactly what she was expecting. Her ignorance wasn't really amusing.
I decided that perhaps my lack of patience might have been due to low blood sugar, so I went out in search of a pizza place to eat at. After walking all the way down to Westminster and only finding Pizza Huts I finally decided to just go into one.
Later that night Hannah and I hung out with two guys from New Zealand, one of whom actually ran a Pizza Hut back home. We talked for a couple hours and we promised to introduce each other's slang words to our respective countries. As we were talking with these guys, Hannah really stared to get on my nerves, all day she complains about how she misses Virgil, then she comes onto these strange guys like a cheap hooker. I don't mind either personality, I just wish she would pick one.
