It rained for most of the day today and the only time we saw even a slice of blue sky it was at sunset. What little sunset we did have was gorgeous pink. I hope we get to see a true sunset while we are here. We had a fairly relaxing day with both Peter and I having an afternoon nap. In the morning, between cloud bursts we drove in quepos and walked around the little town. People were very friendly and we just strolled up and down the main streets. You have to watch where you walk here. In a lot of instances there are no sidewalks and even when there are there are sometimes huge deep holes. I mean you could lose a small child in them! There are also lots of drainage ditches right along the road and if you went off the road into one if these your car would be seriously damaged. the roads are narrow and there's no indication as to where the road ends and the ditch starts. I'm so thankful that I'm not driving here.
We saw lots of monkeys. I was looking and looking yesterday but no luck. Today one was actually following me up the stairs to our apartment. Well actually, I took the stairs, the monkey took the railings. He had me a little freaked out. I have heard stories about people being "attacked". I was trying to take a picture of him and run away at the same time! Peter thought the whole thing was hilarious. We saw two different species. A smaller light brown ones and a larger black, white faced ones. One of the larger black ones had been trying to get in our apartment. We were heading out the front door after just closing the side patio doors. The monkey must have been watching us and made a move for the doors. I happened to go back on to fetch my sunglasses and there was this little face pressed against the glass. Even managed to get a photo of him.
In the afternoon we went for a drive to the end of the road - it ends at Manuel Antonio national park. The beaches stretches from down in front of our place all the way to the park. It's about 2 kms long I believe. Beautiful white coral sand, dotted with a couple of small islands just offshore. Even cloudy and drizzling it was beautiful. I can only imagine what it would look like with the sun shining. The weather is suppose to improve as our week continues.
We've bought a few food items and tonight I made a pretty decent pasta dinner. Even Peter thought so. With no salt, pepper or oil, it's a bit of a challenge. I made a sauce of onion, garlic (product of china!), fresh tomato and chicken. Topped the sauce with some cubes costa rican expensive cheese and a few sliced olives. Quite delicious.
